1. KanJam Ultimate Disc Game

KanJam - one of the best outdoor games for adults 2019

  • Company: KanJam
  • Rating: 4.7 / 5 stars
  • Type of Game: Frisbee, Target
  • Price: $

What is KanJam? Never head of KanJam before? It’s a relatively new game that you’ll be seeing pretty much everywhere this summer. It’s really popular with young adults. With the rise of Frisbee enthusiasts due to Ultimate Frisbee and Frisbee Golf’s recent spike in popularity, this casual but exciting Frisbee target game is also gaining a ton of attention!

KanJam is, in a nutshell, a fast-paced 2-on-2 Frisbee game using 2 specially designed target cans. Each team of 2 takes a turn trying to score in the opposing net, with both players actively involved in the action.

How To Play KanJam

How To Play: Teams take turns trying to score points. With the 2 targets set 50 feet (or your desired distance) apart, the Thrower tosses the Frisbee and scores a ranged of points based on the outcome of the throw. The Deflector partner is allowed to knock it in the air to alter the throw, improving the chances of gaining points. (See diagram)

How To Win: The first team to 21 points wins… OR, the team that does a perfect throw and tosses their Frisbee through the small slot in the can – that’s an Instant Win!

What’s Included: When you buy this official KanJam game, you receive 2 customized cans and 1 Frisbee. The cans are collapsible, so they can store flat when you aren’t playing. The Frisbee included in the set is decent, but true Frisbee fans may wish to substitute the one in the set with their own.

KanJam is a fantastic family game that’s perfect for backyard fun, taking to the beach, tailgating, picnics, parties and more. If you haven’t seen it in action before, check out this video… it’ll definitely make you want to add it to your own collection of outdoor games for adults!

2. Spikeball

Spikeball is one of the best outdoor games for adults

  • Company: Spikeball
  • Rating:  4.6 / 5 stars
  • Type of Game: Volleyball
  • Price: $$

Another fairly new but awesome game is called Spikeball! It’s a great game for volleyball players (or people who used to play a bit of volleyball in their day and still enjoy the game) – athletic people who want something challenging and fun to do in the backyard, on the beach, at the park, on the college grounds, in a squash court or gym… or anywhere else!

What is Spikeball?  It’s a competitive 2-on-2 game similar to volleyball.

How To Play Spikeball:  The teams face off with the net between them. One player starts a point by serving the ball down at the net so that it ricochets up towards his opponents. They have up to three hits between them (just like in Volleyball) to control the ball and also bounce it back off the net back to the first team. If they can’t do this, the first team scores a point. If they do hit it back, the rally commences!

There are no boundaries in this game. After the point/rally begins, players are allowed to move all around the net as needed.

How To Win Spikeball: It’s very similar to volleyball in that the points are scored whenever the ball hits the ground or whenever a team can’t spike it back within 3 hits.  The first team to 21 wins!

What’s Included? This official Spikeball set comes with balls, net, and bag.  There are 3 durable balls in the set (although you play with only 1… the 2 extras are spares). There is also a needle included for inflating the balls to your desired pressure – the higher the balls are inflated, but faster and more intense the game. The hoola-hoop sized net has collapsible legs (both for easy storage and to allow you to make the net perfectly level), and a net whose tension you can also adjust to your preference: more bounce for newer players, less for more experienced.  Oh, and you’ll also get an official Rule Book.

Spikeball has a lifetime warranty on parts – you won’t have to worry about the net or anything breaking! That’s pretty great!

Compared to Slammo: Slammo is a very similar game – actually, the same game, just another brand. A few minor differences make Spikeball the preferred game by many players: the Spikeball net has swinging legs so it can be made level on ANY surface, which is important while playing. And, the balls that come with Spikeball are much thicker and have larger ridges which prove to be much more durable.

Spikeball is a super fun game for volleyball enthusiasts! Although it CAN be played indoors as well, we think it’s game for adults that simply has to be on our “Best Outdoor Games For Adults” list, don’t you?  Check it out in action!

3. Wooden Yardzee and Yardkle Set

Wooden Yardzee and Yardkle Set: Best Outdoor Games For Adults

  • Company: Browns Bank
  • Rating:  4.6 / 5 stars
  • Type of Game: Dice
  • Price: $$

The first two games in our list will likely have players break a healthy sweat as they are pretty physically active. This next backyard game will have you break more of a mental sweat than a physical one! 🙂

This oversized wooden dice set is great for those who love dice games (specifically, Yahtzee and Farkle). Yardzee is the Yahtzee equivalent, and Yardkle is Farkle, although you probably figured that out on your own…). This set is designed to be used outdoors, so it’s definitely something you can use in your backyard for some fresh air entertainment.

What Is Included? 6 wooden dice, each 3.5 x 3.5″.  They are made of 100% solid pine, sealed for durability, and hand-sanded on the corners and edges to prevent chipping or cracking. The dots are burned in rather than painted on, so you can trust they won’t be fading any time soon!  Also included is the carrying bag, and two laminated dry-erase score cards (and the accompanying dry-erase markers): one for Yardzee and one for Yardkle.

How To Play: These dice can be used for whatever dice games you want – giant dice are always lots of fun! The game comes with Yardzee and Farkle instructions and score-cards though, so perhaps start there!

The company promises a 100% satisfaction guarantee on these… judging from the rave reviews from customers that I read through, you can expect you’ll love them too! A great gift!

4. Rollors

Rollors: The Best Outdoor Games For Adults

  • Company: Rollors
  • Rating:  4.6 / 5 stars
  • Type of Game:  Rolling At Target
  • Price: $$

What Is Rollors? Rollors is a relatively new game that is, in a nutshell, a combination of lawn-bowling, bocce, and horseshoes. It’s portable, interesting, requires only a modest fitness level, and is a lot of fun!

How To Play Rollors: This is a game for 2-6 players.  (More can play if you purchase expansion packages of extra roller wheels, available in a variety of colors.)  Each team gets 3 wheels.  The 2 goals are set up 25′ apart (or your desired distance) on a flat playing surface (grass or sand preferably).

In the first round, the blue team goes first. The player rolls the blue rollors from behind the red goal towards his own blue goal. The rollor has to roll on the edge – it must touch the ground within 4′ of the release. It is a similar wind-up and release as in bowling. After the blue player has played all 3 rollors, the red player takes a turn, also aiming at the blue goal.  This is considered the first round.  The next round sees the red team go first, rolling towards their red goal.

How To Win Rollors: Only one player scores in each round – the player whose rollor is closest to the goal. In the case of a tie neither player scores.  “In order to score, a rollor must fall entirely within a 5 foot radius of the center of the goal. A measuring cord is provided to measure this requirement. Points are given as follows:

  • Rollors Scoring GraphicRollors that land on their side – score a point value equal to the number that is showing.
  • Rollers that stop on the edge – score a point value equal to the sum of both sides.
  • Rollers that come to rest against the goal – score a point value of double the number showing.

Play continues with rounds that are started by the last color that has scored, rolling back and forth between goals. To win, a player must achieve a total of 21 points or more, and must have two more points than the opponent.” (Official Rules)

What’s Included In This Recommended Set? 6 Rollor disks (1.5″ thick, 4.5″ in diameter),  2 Goals (8″ high, base 5 x 5″), and the carrying bag.  The Rollors and Goals are made of New Zealand Hardwood.

5. Ladder Golf

GoSports Ladder Golf: Best Outdoor Games For Adults 2019

  • Company: GoSports
  • Rating:  4.5 / 5 stars
  • Type of Game: Tossing At Target
  • Price: $$

What Is Ladder Golf: Ladder Golf is a popular game that has 2 teams tossing “bolos” (two rubber golf-balls attached by a thick string, approx. 12″ long) through the air towards the target ladders. The teams score a variety of points depending on where or how the bolos land.

If you’ve never heard of Ladder Golf, perhaps you’ve heard of it by another name: it is also called Hillbilly Horseshoes, Boloball, Redneck Golf, Rodeo Golf, Polish Horseshoes, Hang-Em Golf, and Monkey Bar.

How To Play Ladder Golf: This game is easy to play, but hard to master! It’s a game ideally for 4 players, played 2 on 2. One member of each team positions themselves at each target, set up at an agreed upon distance apart (approx. 15′). The 3 Red and 3 Blue bolos are tossed by the players at one end over to the other side, scores are tallied up, and then the other 2 players toss them back to the first target.

How To Win Ladder Golf: The rungs of the ladder are usually worth 1, 2, and 3 points (top to bottom). The first team to score 21 points between their two players wins.

In truth, players can agree upon the scoring method they’ll use, as there are no set “official” score rules. Some optional scoring ideas (from the Wikipedia article on Ladder Toss) are:

  • Change the scoring so that it’s 1pt for the bottom rung, 2pts for the middle, 3pts for the top,
  • Assign 10 points if a player tosses a bola onto each of the 3 rungs in one turn.
  • Have the game end only when one team hits 21 without going over.
  • Allow bonus points: 1) A tight dangle bonus is when the balls can no longer be wrapped around the horizontal rods. 2) A springboard bonus, when the balls launch back in the direction they were thrown,. 3) Cancel points, when bolas from opposing teams cancel each other out on the same run (instead of both teams claiming the points)

What’s Included In This Recommended Set:  The GoSports Premium Metal Ladder Golf set comes with everything you see pictured: Two ladders made of powder-coated steel, 6 rubber-ball bolos, and a handy carrying case that lets you neatly pack it for storage and/or easily grab it to go.  The metal ladders are very sturdy and easy to both assemble and disassemble.

6. Molkky

Molkky: One of the best outdoor games for adults 2019

  • Company: Tactic Games USA
  • Rating:  4.5 stars
  • Type of Game: Tossing, Strategy
  • Price: $$

What Is Molkky? Molkky is an extremely popular outdoor game in Europe right now, invented by the Finnish in 1996. It’s one of the best new outdoor games for adults, we think! It requires a combination of tossing skill and strategy, and a bit of luck!

How To Play Molkky: Players toss a wooden pin (called the Molkky) across a playing field, tying to knock over other wooden pins (called Skittles) that are set up in a format similar to bowling pins.  The Skittles are numbered 1-12, and each toss that knocks over the pins (Skittles) earns you points.

If you knock over only 1 pin, you score the number of points marked on the pin (ie, knock over just pin 11, score 11 points). If you knock over 2 or more pins in one toss, you score the number of pins knocked over (ie, knock over 4 pins, get 4 points). After each throw, the pins get stood up again exactly where they landed, so the playing field constantly changes.

How To Win Molkky:  The first player to reach exactly 50 points wins – if you go over, your score is set back to 25 points.  If you miss all targets 3 tosses in a row, you’re out of the game!

What’s Included In This Recommended Set: This is set includes 12 Skittles and 1 Molkky, as well as a wooden carrying/storage box. The wood is European hardwood, excellent for shock absorption, resistant to chipping, and can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. The set also includes the official score book and instructions!

7. Horseshoes

Horseshoes: Best Outdoor Games For Adults 2019

  • Company: St. Pierre’s
  • Rating:  4.5 stars
  • Type of Game: Tossing At Target
  • Price: $$

What is Horseshoes:  The game of horseshoes is an outdoor game played between 2 people or 4 people (2 on 2), where 4 horseshoes are tossed back and forth between two stakes/targets set up on the lawn or in a sandbox area.

How To Play Horseshoes:  Players (or teams) alternate turns throwing both of their horseshoes at stakes (the targets) planted usually about 40′ apart. Each time all 4 horseshoes are thrown it is called an inning, and only one team scores points each inning. Points are scored based on how close the horseshoes are to the pin, the way they have landed, etc.

How To Win Horseshoes: The team with the horseshoe(s) closest to the stake wins the points in the inning. If your team’s horseshoes are the closest two, you score points for both. The game is played to 21 points, and teams must win by 2.

Points:  If the horseshoe lands close to the stake without touching it (regulation rules are within 6″), it earns 1 point. If it is touching or leaning on the stake, 2 points. If it’s a ringer (stake is inside the horseshoe), 3 points!

What’s Included In This Recommended Set: This is a premium set, meaning it’s for players who take the game seriously. It comes with 4 heavy forged-metal horseshoes, (2) 24″ solid steel stakes, the official rules handbook, and a sturdy plastic carrying case.

8. Kubb

Kubb: Best Outdoor Games For Adults

  • Company: Yard Games
  • Rating:  4.5 / 5 stars
  • Type of Game: Tossing, Strategy
  • Price: $$

Kubb (pronounced “Koob”) is a fantastic game you can play in your backyard, on the beach, in a park, or wherever you have some tossing space! You’ll be seeing this everywhere this summer – be it this official store-bought game or a home-made version.

What is Kubb? Kubb (also known as Viking Chess) is a game that somewhat combines horseshoes and bowling. It has a King pin, 10-12 Kubbs (smaller blocks), 6 dowels, and is played on a staked out rectangular playing field.  The object of the game is to toss the dowels to knock over the King before the opposing team does, but before you can even attempt the King, you need to play through the game! Kubb games can last from 5 minutes to an hour, depending on the skill levels of both teams!

How To Play:  While the game will sound complicated to play, once you understand the flow and give it a try, it’ll be easy and you’ll love it! Here’s a description of the game play:

  1. Kubb DiagramThe pitch is set up with the King in the center, and the rest of the Kubbs are divided between the teams and placed along the baselines at either end of the rectangular pitch (see diagram).
  2. Team A goes first and tosses their 6 batons from their baseline at the Team B Baseline Kubbs. Throws are underhanded, and batons must spin end over end. They are attempting to knock over as many as they can.
  3. Baseline Kubbs that are successfully knocked over by Team A: Team B returns them by tossing them on to Team A’s pitch, as close to the middle line as possible. Team A stands them on end where they land (stacking if the tosses have them touch). These are called now called “Field Kubbs”.
  4. It is now Team B’s turn. Team B must FIRST knock over the standing Field Kubbs on Team A’s pitch before they can aim at Team A’s Baseline Kubbs. Field Kubbs that are successfully knocked over are tossed back by Team A onto Team B’s pitch and stood upright (they remain Field Kubbs, just now are on the other side of the pitch). Field Kubbs that are NOT knocked over become where the new baseline for Team A will be on their next turn.
  5. Throwers on Team A may now step up to that line to toss at their opponent’s Field and Baseline Kubbs. They first must knock over the Field Kubbs, then attack the Baseline Kubbs.
  6. Play continues like this until a team is able to knock down all of the kubbs on one side (both field and baseline). Once that is done, they go after the King, from their original baseline.

How To Win Kubb:  Knock over the King! Sounds simple, but game play is intense – you need to remove all of the other Kubbs from the game by knocking them over before you can go after the King.  Should a team knock over the King by accident during game play, they loose the game immediately.

Confused? Check out this video:

What’s Included In This Set: The official Kubb set includes everything you see in the picture, all that’s needed for a good game of Kubb: The King, 12 Kubbs (can play with 10 or 12), 6 dowels, 4 stakes, and a sturdy carrying bag.  The wood used for the game is called Rubberwood, which is a hardwood that is very shock absorbent, durable, and apparently really resists knicks.  Instructions and a game diagram are also included in the package.

Once you figure out the rules, you’ll really enjoy this game, and you’ll be asked to bring it to every gathering!

9. Giant Tumbling Timbers

Giant Tumbling Timbers: Best Outdoor Games For Adults

  • Company: Yard Games
  • Rating:  4.4 / 5 stars
  • Type of Game: Strategy
  • Price: $$$

If you’ve ever played the classic kids game Jenga, you’ll be already excited about this gigantic version you can play outside… it’s great fun, and people of all ages and athletic abilities can play it!

What Is Tumbing Timbers? This is basically just a gigantic version of Jenga that you can play outside, and it’s played the same way! First you stack up the blocks, laying each level in the opposite direction. After the tower has been stacked, the players (any number) take turns nudging blocks out of the tower using only one hand and placing them at the top of the tower, creating more levels.

How To Win: Be the last person to successfully stack a block before the tower tumbles down!

This is a simple game, but oodles of fun! The tension of “will it fall?” is always entertaining – almost as much for the crowds that wander over to watch the game as for the people playing it!

10. Bucketball  (Yard Pong)

Bucketball: Outdoor Games For Adults

  • Company: Bucketball
  • Rating:  4.4 / 5 stars
  • Type of Game: Tossing
  • Price: $$

What Is Bucketball? If you’ve ever heard of or played Beer Pong, or Pong of any kind, this is pretty similar to it, just a large, sturdy set designed for family friendly outdoor play!  It’s a perfect game for backyards, the beach, tailgating… even for in the pool (with the optional bucket tray accessory that lets the cups float)!

How To Play Bucketball:  The 6 buckets of each color are set up in triangular formation, approx 15-25 feet apart. (You may wish to fill up the buckets 1/3rd of the way with sand, water, or another weighted substance to make sure they don’t tip too easily.) Players on each team try to throw the ball into the opposing team’s buckets. If a ball goes into a bucket, that particular bucket is removed from the game or stacked inside another bucket.

How To Win Bucketball: The team that tosses the ball into all 6 buckets first wins!

What’s Included In This Recommended Set: This Bucketball game set includes 6 red and 6 blue buckets, 2 balls, and a custom carrying bag that makes the whole game take up less an a cubic foot of space. The buckets are 9 inches tall, with a 5 1/2″ diameter base and a 8 1/2″ diameter opening.

11. Giant Connect 4

Giant Connect 4: Best Outdoor Games For Adults

  • Company: GoSports
  • Rating:  4.3 / 5 stars
  • Type of Game: Strategy
  • Price: $$$

Looking for a fun game for an outdoor party? Why not get something that’s a classic hit – a game that your guests will instantly recognise and want to play? Check out this Giant Connect 4!

What Is Connect 4? If you aren’t familiar with this game, it’s a strategy game that involves planning, blocking, and more. Players take turns dropping their color wheels into the slots, in hopes of either getting a Connect 4 or blocking their opponent from doing so.

How To Win Connect 4: You must be the first player to get 4 circles in a row (vertical, horizontal, or diagonal) to show your color. If neither can achieve 4 in a row, it’s a draw – you open the bottom “hatch”, the circles drop to the ground, and you begin again!

A game of Giant Connect 4, like Tumbling Timbers above, becomes quite the social game, as it draws people over to watch, to give suggestions, and to want to “challenge the winner”. It’s an easy game to figure out, but can be as difficult as a chess game with a Master, depending on your competition! So much fun for all ages!

12. Bocce Ball

Bocce Ball Set: Best Outdoor Games For Adults

  • Company: Hey! Play!
  • Rating:  4.3 / 5 stars
  • Type of Game: Rolling
  • Price: $$

What Is Bocce? Bocce or Bocce Ball is an easy to learn, easy to play bowling style game that’s played on any soft surface (grass, dirt, or sand). It’s a ideally a 2 on 2 game, but can also be played 4 on 4, or even 1 on 1. In Bocce, the teams go head to head throwing, tossing, or rolling their balls, attempting to be the closest to the pallino (the little white ball).

How To Play Bocce: One player begins the game by tossing the pallino some distance away – this becomes the target for the round. Some of the “best” or most interesting rounds have the pallino in precarious or challenging positions, such as very near, very far, on a hill, tucked up beside a tree, just over a creek, etc.  Players take turns tossing their balls (red, green, red, green, etc.) as close to the pallino as possible until all balls have been thrown.

How To Win Bocce: 1 point is scored for each bocce ball that is closer to the pallino than the opposing team’s balls. The game is played up to 12 or to an agreed upon number.

What’s Included In This Recommended Bocce Set: This set includes 8 heavy, authentic style bocce balls; 4 red and 4 green. Although you can’t see it in the picture here, the red and green balls each come with 2 different scoring patterns on them, so that if there are 2 players on each team, they can identify their own balls. The set also includes the white pallino ball and the handy carrying case.

13. Cornhole

Cornhole Game: Best Outdoor Games For Adults

  • Company: GoSports
  • Rating:  4.1 / 5 stars
  • Type of Game: Tossing At Target
  • Price: $$

What Is Cornhole? Cornhole is one of America’s favorite tailgate games, a relaxing and fun target tossing game for 2, 4, or 8 players. It’s great for all ages, simple to learn, and does not require a lot of

How To Play Cornhole: Cornhole boards are placed directly facing each other at 27 feet (or an agreed upon distance) apart. In a 2 on 2 game (as pictured), one player from each team stands at either end. All 8 bean bags begin on 1 side, with the Red and Blue player on that sides taking turns tossing their 4 toward the opposing cornhole target, after which the points are tallied and it’s the other players’ turn.

How To Win Cornhole:  Teams get 1 point if the beanbag gets on the board, and 3 points if it goes through the hole. Points for each side cancel eachother out, however, so if the Red Team gets 6 points, and the Blue Team 2 points, after the round, the Red Team only adds 4 points (the difference) to their overall score – and they get to go first the next round.  The game is played up to 21 points, and you must win by 2 points. An official match is best of 3 games.

What’s Included In This Recommended Set: This set is not a traditional cornhole set, but instead is a lightweight, portable option. It’s simple to assemble and disassemble, and is easy to either store or transport in the handy carrying bag. While traditional cornhole sets are made of wood and are heavy and cumbersome, this one is made of PVC and a unique, tear-proof fabric – it weighs under 10lbs, but is sturdy and according to reviewers, does stay put in the wind. This set comes with 2 targets, 8 sand-filled bean bags, the carrying case, and the game rules.  It’s currently Amazon’s Best-Seller and top recommendation for Cornhole Sets (including Premium traditional ones)!

14. Croquet

Croquet Set: Best Outdoor Games For Adults

  • Company: Crown Sporting Goods
  • Rating:  3.9 / 5 stars
  • Type of Game: Hitting, Target, Strategy
  • Price: $$

What is Croquet? Croquet is an old English game played on a lawn, where up to 6 players compete individually for the win, knocking wooden balls through a course of wickets with wooden mallets.

How To Play Croquet: First, the playing course is set up (2 stakes set up across from each other and wickets in a loop around them). Each player has a mallet and matching ball. Players take turns hitting their balls with their mallets, trying to be the first to finish the course.

See this video that explains in great detail how the game works, how to set it up, tips on playing well, how to handle various situations (like when your ball hits another player’s ball), and more.

How To Win Croquet: Be the first player to navigate the course from the starting stake back to the beginning again.

What’s Included In This Recommended Set: This is a deluxe croquet set for 6 players that comes with two 21″ hardwood stakes (the playing order painted in rings on the stakes), nine vinyl-coated white wickets, six polymer balls, and size 32″ hardwood mallets that have rubber caps on the second bullet point. It also comes with a black zip-up carrying bag for easy transporting and storage.

15. Jarts: Lawn Darts

Jarts: Lawn Darts are one of the best outdoor games for adults

  • Company: POOF
  • Rating:  3.8 / 5 stars
  • Type of Game: Tossing At Target
  • Price: $

What is Jarts?  Jarts is a safer, updated version of the old metal-tipped lawn darts game that was popular years back (but that isn’t available anymore for safety reasons). Players toss jarts (plastic darts, with round, rubber tips) across a playing field, the target being a hoop on the ground some distance away.

How To Play Jarts: Jarts is a fairly simple game, easy to learn, recommended for ages 8 and up. It’s a game for 2 or 4 players, with players (or teams) taking turns tossing the lawn darts back and forth between the 2 targets.

How To Win Jarts: Tosses that land in the ring get 3 points, and outside that, 1 point is given for each dart that’s closer than your opponent’s. Darts that land in the ring from opposing teams cancel each other out. The first player or team to 21 points wins!

What’s Included In This Recommended Set: This is a set of 4 Jarts: 2 blue, and 2 yellow. Also included are 2 target hoops and game instructions!  Just a note: The many reviews on this product highlight that if you’re expecting the exact same feel to your toss as the metal tipped lawn darts of old, you’ll be a bit disappointed… it’s a slightly different feel, and the darts bounce a bit rather than stick into the ground.

16. Ring Toss Game

  • Company: Elite Sportz Equipment
  • Type of Game: Tossing At Target
  • Price: $
  • Rating: 4.5 / 5 stars

What is Ring Toss? Ring toss is a game that can be played by adults and kids alike. With a tossing target with pegs that have different values, and easy to throw rope rings, it’s a game that’s simple and fun. This is a pretty popular game (over 1,400 ratings on Amazon, averaging 4.5/5 stars!)

How To Play Ring Toss: Set up the target connecting the two wood board arms in the shape of an X. Place at whatever distance you and the other players agree on. Either 1) Take turns tossing all 5 rope rings to tally your best score, or 2) Alternate tossing colored plastic rings tallying your score after all 10 rings have been tossed.

How To Win At Ring Toss: This is a pretty simple one… score the highest points! You can choose to tally several tosses together, or calculate after one set of 5 tosses.

What’s Included In This Recommended Set: This set by Elite Sportz Equipment comes with everything you need to get a game going. 5 heavy duty “classic” rope rings, 10 plastic rings (5 blue, 5 red) if you prefer a lighter ring, the sturdy wood ring board, and the carrying case that fits it all in.

  1. My family and I enjoy the outdoors and are always looking for outdoor games and entertainment. Your site offers a large selection. The Yardzee and Yarkle set is unique and I am looking forward to trying it. Are you planning to add winter games to your selection? We are winter enthusiast too.

    • Hi Deborah,
Thanks for dropping by, and I hope you enjoy your wooden dice games! I love the idea too!
I haven’t added any outdoor winter games yet to this website, but I think it’s a great idea, one that could be a whole post on it’s own! Great idea, thanks!
      Have a lovely day!

    • So glad you enjoyed reading and seeing these outdoor game ideas! I agree with you that games make great gifts… I am thinking of picking up Molkky for my husband this year – that’s a new one for us that I discovered when doing the research for this list. Looks awesome! 🙂
Check back often! I’m constantly working on sharing new ideas for enjoying the outdoors! 🙂

  3. Hi Marlaine,
These are all great games! A few of them are new to me so that’s exciting. I’ve bookmarked your site because living in northern Canada in Novembers is a little too cold and snowy for these. Though you never know, if you’re bundled up, some of these games could be fun in snow LOL.
    Thanks for the new ideas,
    Suzanne

    • Hi Suzanne,
I live in the Great White North too… so I hear you on the Novembers being too chilly for lots of outdoor games. Maybe a few could work with snow… true!
Definitely check back often – I hope to add all sorts of great outdoor ideas… including some winter fun!
Have a lovely day, and stay warm! 🙂

  4. Our outdoor activities are always the same, and we only think of them when all else fails… and no alternatives and with only a few choices to choose from. The products you show here great! They look fun! The interaction they bring amongst a gathering offers a closer bond, networking, and a more easy introduction to meet new people.

    • Hi Maurice,
So glad this list gave you some new ideas! Games are definitely a lot of fun for adults at any gathering… you’re right – it breaks the ice, so to speak, and makes people laugh together, chat together, and generally, have a good time together!
      Have a lovely day!

  5. Spike ball is such a fun game! It requires good hand eye coordination and agility. I am currently a student at UC Santa Cruz and my friends are always looking for new games to play. This sounds like a great option for us when we have down time in between study sessions. We can get a workout in and have fun. Thank you for sharing. There are a lot of great games here.

    • Great idea to fit in a Spikeball game between classes… you can play it easily indoors in a campus gym or outdoors somewhere too, which is great! I love that it’s a good workout, competitive, and interesting! The one challenge, I think, is that you need 4 players of equal ability to get some seriously great rallies going – that isn’t always easy to do!
I played a lot of volleyball in and after high school and this game is one I definitely want to have. Unfortunately the stage I’m in (motherhood, of toddlers) right now doesn’t lend itself well to some great volleyball games… but I’m just assuming that my kids will be athletic when they are older and will want to play it… fair enough, right? 🙂

  6. Hi Marlaine
What a great choice of games for Adults.!
When I thought of outdoor games I always visualize children’s games, but this takes things to a new level and we don’t have to share with our kids:-)
This is a wonderful selection and it looks as though quite a lot of them can be played in a relatively small space?

    • Hi Nick,
Glad you enjoyed browsing these games! We LOVE playing adult games like these in our backyard or on a picnic – and several of them are ok for kids to join in! Our favorite these days is Kubb – and the next one we hope to add is Molkky, I think!
I think you’re right that you don’t need a huge yard for the majority of them. Several games have only require a “pitching field” of sorts (horse shoes, corn-hole, kanjam, etc), but others like Bocce may take you all over the place – you can play it in as little or large a space as you have!
      Thanks for writing in!

    • Thanks Sharon! It’s always a good idea to have a bunch of family-friendly (and adult friendly) outdoor games! Our personal favorites these days at my house are Kube and a competitive twist on croquet that a friend invented (2 teams, extra rules = lots of strategy, lots of fun.)

I appreciate your taking the time to comment! Have a lovely day, and a fantastic season ahead of outdoor fun!

  8. Games that are fun and helps to develop physical strength are the best! You have shared some really interesting list of games that are perfect for outdoor activities and explained it so well!

    • Hey, thanks Jenjoes! I appreciate the positive feedback! My personal favorite these days is Molkky. Not necessary a game that develops physical strength, but fun none-the-less. How about yourself? Any faves?

      • Hi Nate! My personal favorite would be Smash Ball a.k.a Spikeball. All the other games like cornhole, rollors are fun too but when I play this game with my family and friends. The result is always insane! There’s so much going on that people who are not playing also get involved in the game. Smash ball has given us lots of fun memories to cherish!

        Thanks for asking! 🙂

        • Love watching a good Smash Ball game! I have some nephews that are incredible at it and watching them play it is extremely entertaining! There’s something about a good competitive or strategic outdoor yard game that pulls in viewers from everywhere to give their two cents, cheer on favorites, or ask if they can join – such a great part of a summer get-together. Thanks for stopping by and saying hi!
